Digital Storytelling and the Lime Kiln Theater

The Lime Kiln Theater is a non-profit local outdoor theater, established in 1984.  It reaches an audience of several thousands of spectators a year and features plays and musical concerts. Lime Kiln would like to document its history and tell its rich story.

Research Need

RAPC would like to develop a database that seamlessly pulls data from four different law enforcement sources (Buena Vista, Lexington City, Rockbridge County, and VA Uniform Crime Report)  and captures all of these in one place.

Currently, arrest data that RAPC analyze are divided into two categories:  (1) age 17 and below and (2) ages 18+.  RAPC would also like to find a way of disaggregating crime data further by age, to have more specific information on  18, 19, and 20 year-olds, since these are considered minors when it comes to drinking. A breakdown on alcohol abuse, marijuana, prescription drugs, opiates, etc, would also be helpful.

RAPC would like to collect qualitative data on teen substance use/abuse to complement survey data that it has already been collecting biennially since 2008 on alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco, marijuana, and prescription drugs.

RAPC would like to understand how and where teenagers access illegal substances;  their own perception of risk; their parents’ perception of risk; and other mechanisms that facilitate or hinder access to substance.

RAPC would like to identify factors that are (1) measurable; (2) specific to Rockbridge County; and (3) that can be addressed and changed.
